Toorak House 2

Melbourne, Australia

Commissioned by a jazz and entertainment enthusiast, the two-story villa was designed by the studio K.P.D.O. The facade is characterized by concrete and brick, while the interiors feature travertine floors, marble coverings, and Venetian plaster walls. The spatial distribution has defined a series of interconnected environments through rounded masonry arches. The bedrooms are located on the upper floor, connected to the ground floor by a unique double-eight masonry staircase with a handrail embedded in the curved outer wall. A skylight in the shape of an oculus highlights the organic and dynamic forms of the staircase, uniquely enhanced by the bespoke Torpedo Taif chandelier. Standing 280 cm tall, it extends longitudinally in a regal manner, making its sinuous shapes highly appreciable from every angle. The installation of the chandelier at the center of the staircase geometry offers the rare privilege of observing a Barovier&Toso creation from multiple heights and viewpoints, allowing appreciation of every minute detail, the result of masterful craftsmanship.
